Ngorongoro Crater is lush, beautiful and rich with residents that graze its volcanic floor. Two thousand foot high cliffs surround the Crater, which is home to over 13,000 herd animals. The Crater is also home to the highest density of large carnivores in Africa. 18 year old Msaka is the Crater's oldest lioness and leads the large Lakette pride. Faced with a food shortage, their chief huntress disappears to seek out sustenance for them all. Weakened, they now face an even greater threat from four nomadic male lions preparing to attack and claim the pride and its fertile lionesses. To reach them though, the usurping males need to get through. The pride's lead male has guarded them for five years but, at the age of eight, he's almost past his prime. Against their combined strength and determination, will he be able to protect the pride? If he doesn't repel the challengers, it could spell bloodshed for the young cubs who are often the first victims once a victorious male moves in to father his own litters. With the battle lines drawn, the Lakette pride will have one chance to defend itself - and to survive.

Black holes are the makings of science fiction, with fantasies of tunnel passageways that travel through space and time dominating the imagination. What begins as a star’s cataclysmic explosion in a violent supernova results in one of the most mysterious phenomena in our universe: a black hole. Black holes are the makings of science fiction, with fantasies of tunnel passageways that travel through space and time dominating the imagination. Nothing survives a black hole; it's gravitational pull twists space and time into a furious knot so strong that not even light can escape, making the likelihood of locating a passageway inside almost impossible. Are black holes a rare freak of nature or does the universe hide many of these mysterious phenomena? 125 billion galaxies make up the visible universe, with every major galaxy housing a black hole. Indeed, even our own Milky Way harbours a super-massive black hole, 50 million kilometres wide at the very centre of the galaxy. What role do black holes play in attracting matter together within the spider’s web of gas and galaxies? And, with their voracious appetites, what’s to prevent a black hole from wiping out solar systems like our own?

Our planet is heating up and one of the first casualties will be our food. Solutions to this crisis lie within Mother Nature herself in the form of diverse genes found in the wild ancestors of our staple foods - and the man to hunt them down is Dr Ken Street, the Indiana Jones of agriculture. Ken and his team will travel to the land where agriculture began nearly 10,000 years ago. In the remotest parts of the Middle East and Central Asia, the genetic origins of our daily bread and other food still survive. The crops growing here have taken centuries to develop robust genetic traits that allow them to thrive in the harshest of climates. Scientists around the world want access to these genes so they may be integrated into food crops compromised by global warming.

It is the last great wilderness of its kind, a rare and endangered haven for some of Earth's hardiest creatures. Covering hundreds of thousands of square miles of Chile and Argentina, this wild place is known as Patagonia. In spite of its remote location, Patagonia and its wildlife are under pressure from the human footprint. For centuries, wind, geology and tempestuous seas kept Patagonia beyond the commercial reach of man. An astonishing array of wildlife flourishes in the region's nearly 347,000 square miles, including such birds as Magellanic penguins and Andean condors, land mammals such as the guanaco and puma, and marine mammals such as orcas and elephant seals.
