This DVD is the first instructional drum method to fully explain the theory and expertly demonstrate the techniques for adapting authentic Latin rhythms to the modern drumset. The remastered DVD begins with a discussion of the evolution and adaptation of Afro-Cuban percussion instruments to the drumset. Maturano shows how fundamental Mambo and Cha-Cha styles are played by the Afro-Cuban rhythm section. Then the drummer isolates each element of the ensemble, allowing viewers to see and hear the patterns played on the original instruments. Finally, Maturano illustrates the proper way to adapt each instruments sound and rhythm to the drumset.
Herbert Jay Solomon, better known as Herbie Mann, was a Jewish American jazz flutist and important early practitioner of world music. Early in his career, he also played tenor saxophone and clarinets (including bass clarinet), but Mann was among the first jazz musicians to specialize on the flute and was perhaps jazz music's preeminent flutist during the 1960s.
