It was a headline-grabbing heist of NASA proportions. Each year, hundreds of students apply to NASA's prestigious Co-operative Education Program, but only a handful are accepted – allowing them to work alongside NASA's top scientists and go on to careers at NASA and elsewhere. In 2000, one "Co-op" showed an inordinate interest in the cache of moon rocks kept at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, repeatedly visiting the lab to examine them. Then the moon rocks mysteriously disappeared. Moon Rock Heist follows the trail of international intrigue surrounding the recovery of the rocks and reveals how law enforcement finally tracked down the thieves.

In Million Dollar Moon Rock Heist, we go behind the scenes of this bizarre moon rock heist On July 13th 2002, 25-year-old NASA trainee, Thad Roberts and his accomplices broke into the Johnson Space Centre in Houston, Texas, and stole a safe full of priceless moon rocks collected from the Apollo lunar missions over the years. Valued on the black market at millions of dollars, Roberts claimed that he stole these rocks to impress fellow intern, Tiffany Fowler, with whom he was having an affair, boasting that they were the first people to have ‘sex on the moon’ – literally on top of the stolen rock fragments As the search for the missing rocks began, Roberts continued to keep up appearances at NASA while negotiating a sale with Axel Emmermann, a Belgian mineral collector who was secretly working with the FBI to track him down. However, when the safe was finally located, the rock samples were too contaminated and notebooks containing over 30 years of painstaking moon rock research had been lost forever.

No emo. No nu metal. No punk (well, not much). So what does it have you ask? How about classic '70s and '80s ROCK AND ROLL, NWOBHM, Prog and Indie. Yeah, every once in awhile an issue will have too much Led Zep or too much AC/DC which to me is a waste for this fine magazine because you can read about those bands anywhere. But, what makes Classic Rock magazine so unique is that it covers many (of my favorite) bands that you do not see on the covers of 20 other magazines sitting nexxt to it on the shelf.
